River is 1!

Today my baby turns 1.  River has now officially been a part of our family for a whole year. Instead of making a big cake, I chose to decorate cupcakes for her birthday and I really like how they turned out.
We chose to have her birthday party at Grandma and Grandpa Christensen's house in Brigham City so they could share in the fun.  We were also joined by some of Bryce's family to make the party complete.
Happy Birthday River! We love you!!!

Owen is a Cardinal

It's hard to live in St. Louis for four years and not become a Cardinal's fan, so it is understandable that Owen was very excited when his first baseball team was the Cardinals.  Here is Owen in his baseball uniform:
This was Owen's first time playing baseball, and although he was a bit afraid of the ball while playing in the field, he did a pretty good job batting.  Because of being sick in May, crazy wet weather, and our vacation in the beginning of June, he was only able to make it to about half of the team's games, but he did have fun and might trying playing again next year. Bryce even was able to help out a bit as a base coach, and would have made his father proud.
Here is Owen with baseball his team.  Aren't they a sharp looking bunch?

7 Years and Counting . . .

7 years ago I became a mother, and this adorable little boy was born.  Happy 7th Birthday Owen!
Each year we try to pick something that Owen likes to be the theme of his birthday cake, and this year we chose Soccer.  Here is Owen with his soccer ball cake that I made for him:
We had a small family birthday party and it was a lot of fun.  We ate some cake, opened some presents, and played Go Fish with MayLynn's giant playing cards.
We love you Owen!

Spring Soccer

Owen finished off his first season of soccer this morning. Since Owen had a lot of fun playing with his team last fall, we chose to keep going down to Kaysville for games and practices. He was really glad that he didn't have to change soccer teams in the middle of the year.

Here he is striking a pose before his last soccer game.
His team, the Green Jets, had a lot of fun playing soccer together last fall and this spring.
And for good measure, here's one last picture of the boys:

Myths for Story Time

Owen, MayLynn, and I had a fun learning time today.  First, I read them the Myth about Daedalus and Icarus. Next we pulled out the art supplies and had the kids each paint a picture of the story.
Then to top it all off, Owen wrote his version of the story.  Here's their finished work: MayLynn's picture, Owen's story, then Owen's picture
Here is Owen's story - his spelling included:

flying a way

King Minos was mean. Daedalus and Icarus made wings to fly away. But they were cot. (caught) The good Guy sratit (started) to fly but Icarus flo to hih (flew too high) and died.
