Owen's First Soccer Game

Owen had his first soccer game today.  We found out just a couple of weeks ago that he was going to be able to play soccer this fall, and we were all very excited.  After his first practice he modeled his uniform for me. He was suppose to have his first game last weekend, but it was cancelled because of too much rain (who would have thought we'd have that problem in Utah : ).
Here are some pictures that I took at his game today.  He had a whole lot of fun running and chasing the ball, and even enjoyed his quarter playing goalie.  We have several more games this fall and then if I understand things correctly he'll get to play again in the spring with the same team.
The rest of us had fun going to the game as well - especially MayLynn, who really got into cheering on her brother as he played.  River was her normal chill self as she slept through the game, and Bryce, Grandma, and I had fun as well. We love you Owen!

River is 2 Months Old

So, it looks like I need to take some pictures of this little cutie when she's awake, but for lack of a better picture, here is River at 2 months old.  She is currently 9 lbs 10 oz and 21 1/2 inches long.  She likes to coo and laugh and has a very fun personality.  We love our little River!

The First Day of First Grade

Yesterday was Owen's first day of 1st Grade.  He is in Mrs. Burns class at Columbia Elementary school.  This was a picture of him that I took after we got home from school - and he was still smiling!
The whole family got involved in getting Owen to school yesterday.  We all got ready and then walked with Owen to school (my camera was accidentally in a weird setting, so the pictures are fuzzy, but at least I have them :). Owen is now going to the same elementary school that Bryce went to when he was a little boy - 29 years ago. Grandma also has the inside scoop, because she works there doing playground duty during recess. We were even met by a crossing guard that recognized Bryce from when he went to school there.
The girls and I met Owen after school.  He'd had a good day and is looking forward to a wonderful school year.

The Last Week of Summer

How did we spend our last week of summer?  We had a whole lot of fun!
We played Mario Party on the Wii.
We visited the Huntsman Center with Grandma Allen.
We played at the splash-pad in Kaysville.
And most importantly, we just got a whole lot of wiggles out by having fun as a family.

Weber State University's New Faculty Retreat

Two weekends ago I got to go with Bryce to beautiful Midway, Utah to attend a New Faculty Retreat for Weber State University.  Grandma Allen, Owen, and MayLynn came up to Heber City to be nearby and Bryce, River, and I got to stay at the Zermott Resort.  During the 2 1/2 days of the retreat we learned a lot of important information about being a full-time employee and teacher at Weber State, and got to enjoy the beautiful Wasatch Mountains.
The first day of the retreat, Bryce and I took a 4 mile hike with a group of other new faculty, and the pictures above show the beautiful sights we saw as well as a rainbow I saw in the evening after a brief rain shower.
These are pictures of the resort - first the view from our bedroom's window, the decorations on/around the fireplace in the lobby, and the fancy bed that we got to sleep in.
On the last day that we were there, we had Grandma, Owen, and MayLynn came join us at the resort  for some swimming, sight seeing, and a ride on the carousel.
It was hard to leave the fun behind, but when it was over we returned home to finish getting ready for school to start.
